Studies on the Storage of Pears



Abstract
Pears, Changsyprang, were subjected to 100 to 300 krad of Co-60 gamma-ray immediately after harvest in order to improve their keeping qualities. Changes in the qualities and chemical contents were investigated.
1. Gamma-irradiation, especially 300 krad, delayed ripening of pears and controlled fruit scald.
2. Irradiated lots showed somewhat higher sugar content and lower pH than control during storage.
